Zambia and Japan Unite for 60 Years of Progress

This morning we were honoured to host His Excellency Mr. Takeuchi Kazuyuki, Ambassador of Japan at State House with his delegation and discussed key areas of mutual cooperation as we mark our 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Zambia and Japan.

Our relations are founded on the common principles of good governance, political stability, respect for human rights and the rule of law.

Zambia has greatly benefitted from Japanese assistance in key sectors, such as agriculture, energy, health, education, infrastructure, and private sector development. We also noted their assistance through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) frameworks.

We expressed gratitude towards their support in the fight against cholera through the provision of emergency relief supplies.

We noted our admiration towards the Japanese culture and attitude towards hard work that results in high quality products and we look forward to emulating them.

We called on joint investment partnerships in areas such as mining, agriculture, energy, tourism and other sectors of their interest as a way to boost our economies.
