Tourism Is A Window For Jobs – President Hichilema

President Hakainde Hichilema says tourism is an economic driver that Government will continue to build for enhanced treasury incomes.

The President said this when United Nations Tourism secretary general Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais paid a courtesy call at State House today.

The President started by congratulating Ms Nowais on her election to office in May this year. He said Zambia’s tourism can be improved by having well trained hospitality personnel, heightened marketing and proper infrastructure.

“Tourism is critical because it is a big employer. It employs a lot of people, especially young ones. It is not always looking for people with Masters but it is looking for good-hearted ordinary people. I understand first-hand the value of what tourism investment can do to an area,” President Hichilema said. “Tourism remains one of Zambia’s key economic sectors, with vast potential to drive inclusive growth, job creation, and rural development.”

The President added that Ms Nowais’ visit presents an opportunity to explore and strengthen strategic collaboration between Zambia and UN Tourism, particularly in the areas of skills training, destination marketing, and tourism infrastructure development. “We look forward to working closely with UN Tourism to enhance Zambia’s competitiveness as a sustainable tourism destination.

“By investing in people, promoting our natural and cultural assets, and improving access and infrastructure, we can unlock the full value of the tourism sector, not just for Zambia, but for the region and the continent,” said President Hichilema.
