HH Closes Southern Province Tour with Jobs, Tourism and Infrastructure Pledges

President Hakainde Hichilema has wrapped up an extensive tour of Southern Province, carrying a consistent message of development and unity to communities across the region ahead of the 13 August general election.

On Sunday, the President addressed thousands in Pemba, Gwembe, Sinazongwe and Mapatizya, insisting that Zambia's continued progress depends on peaceful, fair politics regardless of regional, ethnic or party differences. In Pemba, he pointed to key UPND achievements since 2021 — free education, debt restructuring and the expansion of the Constituency Development Fund to K40 million — and announced a district hospital, a police station in Muzoka, a skills training centre, road upgrades and expanded electricity and internet access. Volunteer nurses who attended the rally were offered employment on the spot.

His pledges continued across the district. In Gwembe, the President promised investment in fish-cage farming and mining, a Level One Hospital and rehabilitation of the Bottom Road. In Sinazongwe, he vowed to revive Collum Coal Mine and build a 600-megawatt power station, while in Mapatizya he committed to renewing expired artisanal mining licences and financing livestock farmers.

By Monday, the tour reached Kalomo, Kazungula and Livingstone. In Kalomo, President Hichilema reaffirmed his commitment to more jobs, stronger agriculture support and better roads. In Kazungula, he stressed that development must reach every corner of Zambia, citing free education and job creation. In Livingstone, he set out a vision to transform the town into a 24-hour tourism and business hub, and announced plans for a new public university in the province.

Throughout, the President urged voters to back UPND candidates in every position, arguing that a renewed mandate would sustain five years of progress. He now travels to Central Province to continue his campaign.
