GETTING ON WITH THE JOB

The New Dawn government is focused on delivering real change to the people of Zambia and delivering on the promises we made during the 2021 election campaign.

 

FIXING THE ECONOMY

  • After years of failed negotiations under previous administrations, the New Dawn government secured a staff level agreement with the IMF for a $1.4 billion (K25.2 billion) extended credit facility to help tackle Zambia’s debt.

  • Government has restructured $6.3 billion in debt with bondholders foregoing around $840 million in claims.

  • Since the New Dawn government came into office, inflation has nearly halved, credit ratings have been upgraded and revenues are up.

  • We have secured $37 billion in additional foreign investment.

PUTTING FOOD ON THE TABLE

  • Since the New Dawn government came into office inflation is down.

  • In 2022 the government has scaled up the Social Cash Transfer Program to reach more than one million households, as well as increasing the transfer amount.

  • Allocations to the Food Security Pack Program have also increased as we work to reduce the cost of living by transforming the economy.

  • Government is working to increase production to one million tonnes of wheat and soybeans and 10 million tonnes of maize annually by 2027, including through the promotion of early maize.

  • Supporting farmers to produce more at a lower cost including through the purchase and distribution of K184 million worth of mechanised farming equipment to farm training institutes and centers.

IMPROVING THE LIVES OF ZAMBIANS

  • Under the New Dawn government primary and secondary education is now free, there is a desk for every child and 34,500 additional teachers have been recruited.

  • Over 14,000 healthcare workers have been recruited and 62 maternity annexes constructed, with 30 more planned for 2024.

  • Government has increased budget allocations to social protection from K4.8 billion in 2021 to K8.1 billion in 2023, expanding coverage to over one million.

  • The New Dawn government has increased the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K1.6 million to K30.8 million per constituency, with 60% allocated to community projects, 20% allocated to youth and women empowerment and 20% to secondary school and skills development bursaries.
