President Hichilema tells Solwezi people to support constitutional amendment process

President Hakainde Hichilema says the constitutional amendment process should be supported for enhanced distribution of financial resources, among other positives.

He said this when he addressed a crowd that welcomed him at Solwezi Airport today – October 31, 2025.

The President was in North-Western Province to flag-off the construction of Mutanda – Kasempa – Kaoma and Solwezi – Kipushi roads.

He said in just four years, the UPND-led government has done a lot of work, despite inheriting a derelict economy.

“We told you that our children will go to school free of charge and they are going to school free charge. We told you that we will employ nurses and teachers and they are employed now.

“We found CDF at K1.6 million per constituency but next year it will be K40 million per constituency,” he said.

President Hichilema told the cheering gathering that there is now a process to amend the Constitution of 2016 so that: “we can give you more constituencies.”

“Look at the size of Mufumbwe, Kasempa constituencies! They are too big. For us to do that (delimitation), we need you to support the constitutional amendment process which is going on. “Those who don’t want the constitutional amendment don’t want Solwezi to have more constituencies. If we have more constituencies in Solwezi, it means more money will come in Solwezi,” he said.

The President added that for continued development, the people of Solwezi must go out in large numbers to register as voters in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

On Mutanda – Kasempa – Kaoma road, President Hichilema said people in North-Western Province will have an option to travel to Lusaka in a shorter period of time.

“We are now going to see businesses coming up along that road.

“We also know that we need a bigger hospital here in Solwezi,” said President Hichilema
