President Hichilema's Northern Province Tour: A Development Agenda for Every District

President Hakainde Hichilema concluded an extensive campaign tour of Northern Province, setting out an ambitious programme of infrastructure, healthcare, education and job creation as he urged residents to return the UPND to office in the August 13 General Election.

The President opened his tour in Chilubi, where he proposed splitting the district in two to bring services closer to the people, alongside pledges to modernise its harbours, boost water transport and rehabilitate roads. In Kaputa, he committed to upgrading the Mununga–Kaputa–Mporokoso Road, building a modern hospital and recruiting volunteer health workers before the end of July. Nsama was promised improved roads, connection to the national electricity grid and the long-awaited Kasaba Bay Airport project, while in Mporokoso the President pledged work on key roads to ease the movement of people and goods.

Turning to the second leg, President Hichilema visited Mpulungu, where he announced plans for a state-of-the-art hospital, a trades school and additional health workers and teachers. Traditional leaders, including Senior Chief Tafuna, endorsed his candidacy. In Mbala, chiefs led by Senior Chief Sokolo threw their weight behind the UPND as the President pledged to modernise the Zombe–Kaseshya border facility and upgrade the Lunzuwa Bridge. He thanked the people of Mungwi for their overwhelming turnout, reaffirming his focus on roads, jobs and lowering the cost of living.

The tour closed in Kasama with the announcement of an ultra-modern hospital and a new public university for the province. The President noted that the newly upgraded Kasama International Airport was already boosting revenue and economic activity.

Throughout, his message held firm: free education, continued recruitment, and development for all. A second mandate, he said, would allow that progress to continue.
