President Hichilema Hails Constitutional Amendment for Strengthening Democracy

President Hakainde Hichilema says the amendment of the Constitution has strengthened the country’s democracy and promoted inclusivity in the governance system.

And President Hichilema has thanked Zambians for making valuable submissions to the Mushabati Constitutional Technical Committee.

President Hichilema explained that the reforms made through Act No. 13 will result in increased support for communities, expanded opportunities for women and youth, and greater access to resources for vulnerable citizens.

“We also commend this House for successfully passing the bill. We are proud that women, youth, and persons with disabilities will be guaranteed representation at all levels of our governance system for the first time in our country’s history,” he said.

The amended Constitution also provides for an increase in the number of seats in the National Assembly.

President Hichilema made these remarks when he addressed the Fifth Session of the Thirteenth National Assembly to report on progress in the application of national values and principles.
