Hichilema Takes Development Drive Across Western Province

President Hakainde Hichilema has swept through Western Province on an intensive two-day campaign, carrying a message of connectivity, trade and opportunity to district after district ahead of the 13 August general election.

The tour opened in Mulobezi, where the President set out an ambition to turn the province into a business and tourism hub, anchored by a new international airport, more Farmer Input Support beneficiaries, stronger livestock disease control, wider connectivity and new dams and boreholes. In Mwandi he promised better roads, clean water, more schools and clinics, and fresh jobs, while pointing to gains already delivered in free education, social protection and the recruitment of teachers and health workers.

Trade infrastructure featured heavily. In Sesheke, he pledged to tar the Kazungula–Livingstone–Sesheke Road, upgrade the Katima Mulilo border post with Namibia, rebuild the fire-damaged town market and modernise the district hospital and boarding school. In Sioma, he promised to expand the Malombe centre-pivot irrigation scheme for year-round farming, alongside more health facilities and feeder roads.

On the second day, the President reached Shangombo, vowing to upgrade the harbour, canal, border post and Sioma–Shangombo Road to boost trade with Angola, and to build a modern market and skills institute for young people. In Nalolo he reaffirmed his commitment to services and economic opportunity.

Limulunga brought some of the biggest announcements: the upgrading of Mongu Airport to international status, with compensation already under way, the completion of Lewanika University, and the imminent start of works on the Sioma Power Station. He also directed that volunteer teachers and nurses at the rally be employed.

Closing in Senanga before large crowds, the President appealed for a renewed UPND mandate to keep the province's progress moving.
