President Hichilema Reaffirms Commitment to Business Reforms
President Hakainde Hichilema says the Government will sustain its reform agenda to enhance Zambia’s business environment and unlock economic potential.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of German investors at State House today, President Hichilema said the reforms have been instrumental in driving the country’s economic transformation.
“The aim is to make doing business easier,” he said, citing progress in the energy sector where reforms have opened opportunities for independent power producers, traders, net metering, open access, interconnectors, and expanded electricity generation and transmission.
“Basically, we are a reformist Government, addressing structural problems and rigidities we inherited, issues that had slowed economic growth,” President Hichilema said.
Delegation leader Jan Traeckner said the group was keen to facilitate European investment in Zambia’s renewable energy transmission. He praised Zambia’s conducive investment climate, describing it as welcoming and often referred to as the “heart of Africa.”
Energy Minister Makozo Chikote said following his engagement with the delegation, areas of mutual understanding had been established, particularly around energy sector collaboration and the use of coal in power generation.
