President Hichilema Honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award at 2025 Zambian Man of the Year Awards
President Hakainde Hichilema has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 Zambian Man of the Year Awards, an annual event that honours outstanding Zambian men for their contributions to national development. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to the Head of State at a colourful ceremony in Lusaka today.
In his acceptance speech, President Hichilema described the award as a reflection of a shared national vision. He attributed his success to the power of education and perseverance, recalling his humble beginnings.
“HH, a rural male child, walked to school, running, rain or no rain, we went to school, writing exams in the village, going to secondary school, and national service. And based on your grades, you got a scholarship to the University of Zambia. That’s where we all met, the melting pot. And today, I can stand here as President of this country, as Chief Servant,” he said.
“See what education can do,” the Head of State added.
President Hichilema emphasised that the award was not his alone, but a celebration of collective effort and national unity. He praised Zambia’s peace and stability, and the contributions of those who came before him.
“The success of our country depends on our unity,” he said. “We must continue investing in shared responsibility to make Zambia great.”
President Hichilema also acknowledged the everyday heroes who keep the nation running, including farmers, teachers, nurses, and miners, whose dedication, he said, deserves recognition.
He reiterated his government’s commitment to delivering lasting prosperity through policy reforms such as free education, aimed at improving the welfare of all citizens. He also encouraged businesses to support the less privileged.
Founder of the Zambian Man of the Year Awards, Chanda Kangwa, praised President Hichilema’s journey as a beacon of resilience and inspiration.
“Mr. President, your life is a masterclass in consistency,” she said. “You’ve shown us that true leadership is not inherited; it is earned, endured, and lived every day with humility and courage. You’ve taught us that greatness is not defined by titles, but by impact, not by how many times one rises, but by how many times one stands up after falling.”
