First Lady Mutinta Hichilema Donates to the Autism Centre in Kabwe
First Lady Mutinta Hichilema has donated a school bus and K200,000 to the Mutinta Hichilema Autism and Special Needs Centre in Katondo, Kabwe, reaffirming her commitment to supporting children with autism and special needs.
Speaking during the handover, Mrs. Hichilema said the bus will provide safe and reliable transport for pupils, connecting more families to the Centre and ensuring children have access to education and care. She described the donation as a symbol of inclusion and hope.
The First Lady noted that the Centre, which was launched in August 2022 and officially handed over in November 2024, was built on the belief that every child deserves dignity, support, education, and opportunity.
In addition to the bus, Mrs. Hichilema presented K200,000 to mothers of pupils at the Centre to help them establish small businesses that will support their families. She praised parents and guardians for their love, patience, and advocacy, saying their efforts were vital in nurturing children with special needs.
Mrs. Hichilema also thanked the Ministry of Education, the Centre’s staff led by Headteacher Mrs. Abigail H. Sikasunda, and the Katondo community for their continued support.
The Mutinta Hichilema Autism and Special Needs Centre has become a key institution in Kabwe, providing specialised education and care for children with autism and other developmental challenges.
