First Lady Mutinta Hichilema donates assorted items to Kitwe Teaching Hospital and Members of the Community
First Lady Mutinta Hichilema has donated assorted items to Kitwe Teaching Hospital and to vulnerable members of the community in Kitwe District.
The donation to Kitwe Teaching Hospital included 40 hospital beds, 12 maternity beds, 200 blankets, 100 mattresses, and a 20-foot container filled with assorted hospital materials, including 20 wheelchairs. She also provided foodstuffs, which comprised 100 bags of mealie meal, 50 bales of sugar, and 50 boxes of cooking oil.
Speaking during the donation, Mrs. Hichilema said the gesture was made in the spirit of support and commitment to the health and well-being of citizens. The First Lady said she was aware of the many challenges hospitals face in delivering quality health care.
She noted that it is the responsibility of citizens to complement government efforts in improving the quality of health-care services in hospitals. Mrs. Hichilema expressed hope that the donation would positively impact the lives of patients.
Handing over items to the community, the First Lady said her office is committed to empowering communities to promote sustainable development. She assured the people of Kitwe District that they would not be left behind.
“I am pleased to donate the following assorted items to the community: 50 industrial sewing machines and 10 embroidery machines to cooperatives on the Copperbelt, and 200 bags of mealie meal to the elderly and vulnerable,” Mrs. Hichilema said.
She also donated 200 blankets and chitenge materials to the elderly and vulnerable. Additional items included 900 raincoats for young boys and girls, 50 boxes of cooking oil, and 50 bales of sugar for the community.
Mrs. Hichilema expressed gratitude to the organisations that made the donation possible, including the Government of the Republic of India, the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), Project C.U.R.E., and the Gladys Mwansa Masabo Foundation (GMMF).
She said the gesture of generosity by these organsiations had brought hope to many families. “It is my sincere hope that these donations will bring relief and renewed hope to the people of this province,” she said.
