Chinese Premier to jet into Zambia for official visit
Premier of the People’s Republic of China Li Qiang will undertake an official visit to Zambia from Wednesday, November 19, 2025 to Thursday, November 20, 2025.
Mr Li is a member of the standing committee of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) central committee political bureau.
His visit is at the invitation of President Hakainde Hichilema and it follows the President’s State visit to China from September 9, 2023 – September 16, 2023.
During that State visit, Zambia and China elevated their bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
In a statement issued by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mulambo Haimbe today, the forthcoming engagement by Mr Li reaffirms the continued strengthening of the historic and mutually beneficial relations between the two countries.
Mr Haimbe said during the visit, Mr Li will hold bilateral talks with President Hichilema at State House.
“The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as trade and investment, transport and logistics, energy, mining, agriculture, and technology.
“The two leaders will also review progress on the implementation of various agreements and projects, including the revitalisation of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA), as well as explore new opportunities for collaboration under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) framework,” Mr Haimbe said.
The minister added that Mr Li’s visit also highlights China’s recognition of Zambia’s role as a strategic partner in advancing regional connectivity and industrialisation within the framework of South-South cooperation.
Mr Haimbe also said the visit further reflects the shared vision of the leadership of Zambia and China to foster sustainable economic transformation through partnership, innovation, and mutual respect.
“His Excellency Li Qiang is expected to depart Zambia at the conclusion of his engagements on 20th November 2025.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation remains committed to promoting Zambia’s bilateral and multilateral relations to realise the country’s development aspirations, for the benefit of the Zambian people,” said Mr Haimbe.
